HURLING| Naomh Colum Cille Lift Junior Crown
Sunday 28.08.2016
Omagh and Naomh Colum Cille faced each other in the Tyrone Junior Hurling final which was convincingly won by the East Tyrone team on a score of 1-22 to 0-4. The county town side are building for the future and saw Sunday’s final as an opportunity for their developing squad to get some much needed experience.
In what was a very one sided game Omagh scored twice in the opening half with their opponents landing seven unanswered points after each score to reach the break leading 0-14 to 0-2. Niall O’Neill sent over 0-9 of his team’s first half tally while Omagh’s scores came from the stick of Aidan and Conor O’Neill .
The second half continued in similar fashion with scores from Jack Ryan, Sean Timlin and Paul Maguire ensuring that there would be no fairytale comeback for their opponents. Tommy Cunningham and Conor O’Neill did manage to find the target for Omagh but they never really threatened a very well organised Naomh Colum Cille side that will now look forward to competing in the Ulster series.
