Ulster Minor Shield Final 2016

Eoghan Ruadh 3-16, Lisbellaw 0-6

Eoghan Ruadh Hurling Club became the first Tyrone team to win the new Ulster Minor Shield competition since its inception five years ago. A superb first half display basically ensured that the shield would be heading to Dungannon on Sunday afternoon.

The Tyrone side got off to a real flier as a fast ball into the forward line saw corner forward Conall Devlin take possession and fire the ball to the net. Shortly after Eoghan Ruadh bagged a second major when industrious wing forward Adam Cullen found the net after a fortuitous deflection off Devlin.

Lisbellaw were well and truly rattled by the Eoghan Ruadh fast start but did get themselves on the score board. However points from Fergal Donaghy and Ben Gormley ensured that the Tyrone lads maintained their lead and their focus.

Midway through the first half and Eoghan Ruadh hit the net for the third time when target man Adam Willoughby scored.

With the Tyrone side’s half back line of Ronan Boyle, Lorcan Devlin and Sean Donaghy dominating the play there was no way back into the game for Lisbellaw and Eoghan Ruadh went in at the break leading 3-6 to 0-3.

Brannan Molloy was introduced for the second half and the dual star was straight into the action getting his name on the score sheet following some great work from Jack Campbell. Eoghan Ruadh were in total control and a fabulous move involving Lorcan Devlin and team captain Piaras Mc Erlean resulted in the score of the game.

Lisbellaw continued to battle hard but once again Eoghan Ruadh kept the door well and truly shut with Conor Mc Kee, Ronan Boyle and Ciaran Ross outstanding.

The Tyrone lads added ten second half points with nine of these coming from play as they coasted to a well deserved nineteen points win.

They can now look forward to an Ulster Cup semi final clash with Dungiven’s Kevin Lynch’s. This will form part of a double header of semi finals at Ballinascreen next Sunday with the other one seeing Dunloy taking on Ballygalget.
