Three minutes into the second half at O’Neill Park in Dungannon on Saturday night Stewartstown looked set for a place in the quarter finals as they led Cookstown 2-7 to 2-2 but they failed to score again as the Father Rocks staged a rousing late rally to win by the minimum margin.
All four goals in this contest came in the first half with Marty Murray and Danny McElhatton netting for the winners and Gareth Devlin getting a brace for the Harps. Devlin also added five points although his evening came to a premature end when he was red carded in the closing stages. Martin Hughes and Christopher Eastwood had Cookstown points but it was former Tyrone star Owen Mulligan who really came to the fore when his side needed him most with a number of breath-taking points as they emerged 2-8 to 2-7 winners.
