Impressive Armagh See Off Tyrone
Wednesday 08.04.2026
Tyrone 2-15 1-24 Armagh
Tyrone made the trip to the Athletic Grounds in their final group game of the Ulster Under 20 championship but came up against a home side intent on topping the group and maintaining their impressive form.
From the outset Armagh meant business racing to a five point advantage with ten minutes played. Shea McDermott got Tyrone on the scoresheet from a placed ball before Adrian McGurren was on target to reduce the deficit. Former Tyrone minor Liam McGeary got a point for his new county before Conor O’Neill drove through to leave three between. Tyrone were struggling around the middle and the home side left five in it, following Eoin Duffy’s fourth and a two pointer from the impressive Aaron Haughey.
Tyrone had created a couple of goal chances earlier in the half without success but received a lifeline when Leo Hughes poked home after McDermott’s shot had been saved, in the 30th minute, to trail by just two at the break 1-6 0-11.
Armagh reeled off five unanswered points in as many minutes to start the second period. Aodhan Quinn replied but a comprehensive third quarter was complete when Duffy tucked away a penalty to extend the lead to ten.
Tyrone needed a response and Brian Gallagher was unlucky to see his shot cannon back off the crossbar. But a cracking goal from McDermott which followed a Jamie Concannon two pointer halved the deficit with 12 minutes remaining. Peter Colton scored and although Shea McDermott kicked a two pointer, scores from Diarmaid O’Rourke who had a brilliant second half kicking five scores and Eoin Duffy who finished with 1-7 ensured Armagh would top the group on a final score of 1-24 to 2-15.
Tyrone can have little complaints and following the completion of the league section will travel to Celtic Park, next Wednesday to face Derry in the quarter finals. Armagh have secured a semi-final place at home.
