Aghyaran and Trillick both made it through to the quarter final of their respective championships following comfortable wins over Rock and Strabane.

The border men were hugely impressive with Ronan Mc Hugh superb as he top scored with 2-8 of his team’s 2-13. Aghyaran settled early and took total control following the first of Mc Hugh’s goals in the thirteenth minute.

However this was no one man show as Ronan Mc Namee, Tommy Dolan, Paddy Mc Nulty, Sean Byrne, Malachy Martin and Michael Anderson all stood out for the winners.

For Rock Friday night’s defeat just about summed up their season. For periods of the game there was not much between the teams in terms of possession and chances created. However their failure to find the net during a ten minute period of dominance at the start of the second half sealed their fate and in spite of the best efforts of Aidan Girvan, Ciaran Gourley, Aidan Mc Garrity and Shea Litter they could not prevent Aghyaran deservedly making it through to the quarter finals on a final score of 2-13 to 0-7.

Trillick last won the county title back in 2015 and judging by the way they performed tonight they look well capable of being serious contenders this year too.

Granted they were not really tested by an under-strength Strabane side but Lee Brennan, James Garrity and Daire Gallagher caused all sorts of problems for the Sigersons with their pace, movement and ability to finish.

Brennan top scored with 0-8 while Garrity’s two goals certainly raised his profile on a night when the winners coasted to victory but also restricted their opponents to a measly six points. Warner Mullen, Michael Etherstone, Aodhan Devine and Ruairi Gormley battled to the end for Strabane but the gulf in class was too much for them on the night.

Final score : Trillick 3-17, Strabane 0-6.
