Impressive Plunketts Through To Semi Final
Sunday 13.09.2026
Pomeroy 1-21 Derrylaughan 0-14
Pomeroy will face Cookstown in a derby semi-final in the Connollys of Moy Intermediate Championship after they eased past Derrylaughan at O’Neill Park in Dungannon on Sunday evening.
The Plunketts led 1-9 to 0-6 at the short whistle and in the second half they assumed control playing some superb attacking football on a night when their entire tally of 1-21 came from play. Kieran McGeary and GO POWER man of the match Ronan Duffin (2) had the opening three points before Liam Gervin opened Derrylaughan’s account. Pomeroy though continued to dictate matters with McGeary and Peter McGoldrick both on target before Duffin landed a two pointer. Derrylaughan centre half back Connor Hughes stopped the rot with a point before James Donnelly knocked over a free from outside the arc.
Frank Burns, who was outstanding all night, hit the first of his half dozen points but Derrylaughan corner back Caoimhin Hughes had a brace either side of one from Duffin. In the last minute of the opening half Marty Coyle and McGoldrick combined for Peter Rafferty to score a well taken goal to leave it 1-9 to 0-6 at the break.
Caoilean Hughes had the opening score of the second half for the Kevin Barrys but then the Plunketts assumed complete control. They reeled off six points without reply with the rampaging Burns getting three of them and McGoldrick, Hugh J Cunningham and Coyle all on target as well. Adam Cushnahan raised an orange flag for the Loughshore men but Pomeroy remained dominant. Burns and Duffin tagged on further points, the latter finishing with 0-8 to his name, and while Donnelly and Ciaran Gervin responded for Derrylaughan it was only academic as the Plunketts advanced to the last four.
