Dean Maguirc College emerged from the New Year cold snap with a well deserved win at a muddy and windswept Dub securing a victory over Lecale Trinity Downpatrick.

Pre-match predictions of the “Deans” demise were torn asunder with a powerful first half performance that saw Lecale searching for answers but finding none.
Lecale opted for an  ultra defensive setup hoping to turn over and hit their dangerous inside forwards Cormac Duffy, DJ Farrell and Eoghan Convie. However,  over the hour they got little joy from the outstanding Dean full back line of Tiernan Mullan, Finbar Donnelly and Ciaran Mc Crystal who continually won ball out in front and proved to be a platform for repeated Dean counter attacks. Behind them Caoalon Tracey proved to be a secure pair of hands in the Dean net coming off his line several times to sweep up danger.
At half back for the Dean Poggie Donaghy was the source of much that what was good about the Carrickmore school with his strong running and intelligent passing seeing him add two points from play. He only marginally outshone his half back line comrades Micheal Gallager and Eoin Conway who can also be proud of their shift in the Dean jersey.
Up front the Dean tormented the Lecale rearguard and hit the ground running with a goal off the boot of Shea Munroe shortly after the throw in. By half-time they had added a further 2 goals and 3 points. Kevin Cuddy hit the net  following a move that began in the Dean goalmouth. The strong running Micheal Mc Callan added another at the end of a sweeping move with good link play from Daithi Mc Elhatton and the hardworking Sean Donnelly. Corner back Ciaran Mc Crytal was rewarded when he took his chance to add on a brilliant point from well out on the wing.
Lecale barely stayed in touch due to the efforts of their centre half forward Matthew Murray and their two midfielders Ryan Gates and Thomas Murphy who battled bravely with the impressive Dean duo James Mc Callan Ryan Mc Callan. Cormac Duffy notched on two late frees which added to a good point from play from DJ Farrell saw Lecale go in at Half time 3-3 to 0-3 adrift.
A resurgent Lecale began the second half determined to get themselves back into the match but further sucker punches sapped their energy.
The Dean would go on to hit the net four more times courtesy of Michael Mc Callan, Odhran  Curran, Kevin Cuddy and substitute Vincent Gormley. Captain Sean Og Teague added a point and Shea Munroe another from a free.
In the same period Lecale could only manage one major from Lorcan Murray and points from Oisin Hanna and Gerard Doran.
Referee Martin Conroy’s final whistle signalled the progression of Dean Maguirc College in to the last four of the Mac Larnon Cup where they await the outcome of the St Pius X v Rathmore Quarter final.
