Impressive Win For Minor Hurlers
Saturday 05.04.2025
Tyrone minor hurlers hosted Kildare in the second round of the Celtic Challenge at Garvaghy on Saturday afternoon. Following a very impressive team display the home side recorded a 4-13 to 0-8 win and were well worth the margin of victory.
The Red Hands were sharp and focussed from the first ball with their half back trio and the midfield pair leading by example. Shane Corrigan opened the scoring after three minutes as Tyrone defended stoutly when they had to but got forward at every opportunity to put the Kildare defence under constant pressure.

A converted 65 from the impressive Cormac Mc Erlean was followed by points from Rory Woods, Cathal Cunningham and Corrigan again to put Tyrone five clear. Tyrone were playing wind assisted in the first half and set about making the most of the elements.

Their first goal came after some excellent pressure from the Red Hands forwards that caused mayhem in the Kildare goalmouth before corner forward O’Donnell finished to the net. Tyrone were now completely on top and added two further points from Woods and the impish Corrigan.

Up to this Kildare were all at sea but in the closing minutes of the first half they struck three fine scores courtesy of Myles Darcy (2) and Finnan O’Rourke.
Tyrone began the second half like they were in a hurry to get the game over. An early point from Cormac Mc Erlean was followed by a goal apiece from Woods and Cunningham as the Red Hands stretched their lead to fifteen points. Darcy and Callum Jackson swapped points before Corrigan and Mc Erlean increased the home side’s lead.
You got the feeling a fourth goal was not far away as Tyrone ran the bench and upped the pace. A fine finish from Rory Woods made it 4-11 t0 0-4 but credit to Kildare they battled right to the end and added four further points to leave the full time score Tyrone 4-13, Kildare 0-8.
