Integrated College Dungannon U16 Gaelic Team has successfully retained their County Tyrone ‘B’ Vocational Championship trophy after defeating St John’s Dromore in the final.

Played at Fintona, the ICD boys showed great enthusiasm, determination and skill to come out winners on a score line of 3-7 to 1-6.

ICD played with a strong breeze in the first half and looked in trouble when St John’s scored a goal to level the game with fifteen minutes left of the half. However, with Ethan Jordan kicking over some fine points and Ciaran Conway and Miguel Basto playing well at midfield, ICD forged ahead before half time. With a few minutes remaining, Ethan Jordan slammed the ball to the back of the net to give ICD a 1-6 to 1-3 half-time lead.

Playing into the wind in the second half, ICD looked to be up against it but with Andrew Mullen, Stephen Kennedy, Dean Scott, Oisin McAnallen and Jack Hughes all playing well in defence, St John’s found it hard to get any scores on the board. A long distance free from Ethan Jordan and two cracking goals from Kyle Burns gave ICD some breathing space and, hard as St Johns tried, they could not find a way past Daniel Mikolajczyk in the ICD net.

The ICD rear guard held out and at the final whistle they had come out on top of a score line of 3-7 to 1-6.

Team Coach, Mr Stephen Rice, said, “I am very proud of the whole squad, they put on a battling performance throughout the 60 minutes. We looked to be struggling at half time but all the boys worked really hard in the second half and Kyle’s two goals were the difference. This was a real team effort and it is a credit to both teams for putting on such an exciting final”.

ICD will now go on to represent Tyrone in the Ulster Vocational Schools U16 ‘B’ Championship.
