Killeeshil 3-11 Cookstown 1-4

Killeeshil lifted the 2020 Junior league title when they proved too strong for Cookstown in the decider at Pearse Park in Galbally on Sunday afternoon.

It was a contest that the St.Marys always looked in control off with the result known long before the final whistle. Jason Doyle and Ruairi O’Neill had early points for the winners before Dean Teague opened Cookstown’s account. In the 9th minute John McMullan hammered the ball to the back of the Cookstown net and Killeeshil never looked back. Pascal Donaghy, Doyle and O’Neill all tagged on points and while Nathan Connelly replied for Cookstown it was effectively game over when McMullan palmed a Conall Monaghan centre to the net.

Killeeshil led 2-7 to 0-2 at the break and it was already a damage limitation exercise for Cookstown. Teague did narrow the gap on the restart but minutes later Gary Reilly punched the ball to the net as Killeeshil stretched their advantage. Killeeshil had O’Neill sent off late on while Cookstown substitute Eoin Donnelly got a goal but it was Killeeshil’s day.

Killeeshil scorers – John McMullan 2-1, Jason Doyle 0-3 (1 “45”), Pascal Donaghy 0-3 (3F), Gary Reilly 1-0, Ruairi O’Neill 0-2, Michael O’Neill 0-1, Darragh Hamill 0-1

Cookstown scorers – Dean Teague 0-3 (1F), Eoin Donnelly 1-0, Nathan Connelly 0-1
