All Ireland champions Tipperary showed their quality with a hard earned but deserved 0-12 to 0-9 win over Tyrone at Clanabogan on Sunday.

The reigning champs raced into a five point lead after just six minutes with scores from Aisling Mc Carthy, Aisling Moloney and Roisin Howard. The home team was chasing shadows at times inside the opening quarter as the visitors controlled possession while creating numerous chances.

A few positional switches eventually steadied the ship for Tyrone and scores from Slaine Mc Carroll, Emma Jane Gervin and Grainne Rafferty had Tyrone right back in the game. However it was the Premier County that finished the half the stronger with a brace of Mc Carthy points that left the half time score 0-7 to 0-3 in favour of  Tipperary.

The second half was only three minutes old when Tipperary full forward Aisling Mc Carthy was sin binned. With Neamh Woods taking the game to their opponents Tyrone hit five points unanswered to lead for the first time 0-8 to 0-7. Chloe Mc Caffrey, Emma Jane Gervin, Grainne Rafferty and Maria Canavan all found the target for the Red Hands as they capitalised on their numerical superiority.

Unfortunately that was as good as it got for Tyrone. Once they were back to full strength Tipperary found their rhythm again. Moloney, Lorraine O’Shea, Aoibhe O’Shea and Aisling Mc Carthy each landed points as the visitors strength in depth prevailed.

Chloe Mc Caffrey did add a late point for Tyrone but it was not enough to deny Tipperary the win. Final score Tipperary 0-12, Tyrone 0-9.
