The Tyrone Masters, or over 40s as they are often referred to, have qualified for the All Ireland semi finals having defeated Roscommon in a play off game at the weekend. With both teams tied in terms of points following their league programme a “winner takes all” game was required to determine which team would make the last four.

The match, played in Ballinagh County Cavan, was a keenly contested affair. Roscommon led by two points early on but Tyrone put themselves in a strong position after Damien Patton hit the net, Points from Liam Patterson, Conor Daly and Shane Treanor helped the Red Hands reach the break tied 1-3 to 0-6.

The second half saw a determined Tyrone up the pace and a second Patton goal followed by a well executed 45 from Patterson put the winners in a strong position. Credit to Roscommon they continued to battle away but found the Tyrone defence in uncompromising mood.

Late scores from Mark Donnelly, Ryan Mc Callion and Eamon Mc Elroy helped ensure Tyrone made it through to the last four of the competition. Next up for them is another Connacht side Sligo in the semi final.
