With the beginning of the National League just over a week away Tyrone have been dealt another blow with the news that Richie Donnelly is opting out of the county panel for 2024.

The news comes only a few weeks after the confirmation that Niall Sludden won’t be part of the 2024 Tyrone panel either.  Both players were key to Tyrone winning the All Ireland Minor title in 2010. Richie made his debut as a substitute against Limerick in the first round of the All Ireland qualifiers in 2015. His last appearance in a Tyrone jersey came last year in the win over Donegal at the preliminary quarter final game in Ballybofey.
In all he has made 71 appearances for the Red Hands at Senior level with 29 of those coming in the championship.
During his career to date he won two Ulster Senior Championship medals as well as an All Ireland in 2021 title.  His decision to sit out the 2024 intercounty season comes at a time when he was playing as well as ever at club level. He was a key player at midfield in 2023 as Trillick won the Tyrone County Senior Championship and he capped off a memorable year by helping the St.Macartan’s win the league as well to complete the double for only the second time in their illustrious history.
