It’s Derrytresk’s To Lose…….or so the “experts” think!!!!!!!
Friday 14.10.2011
This Sunday’s Power NI Tyrone Junior final brings together a unique pairing of teams in terms of expectation and tradition. Few, if any, outside the environs of Derrytresk would have predicted that the men from The Hill would make it all the way to the county final and beat teams like Dungannon and Errigal Ciaran Thirds along the way. But as it stands they are sixty minutes away from being crowned County Champions and promotion to Intermediate football for 2012. Of course there is the small matter of a Kevin Hughes inspired Killeeshil side standing in their way as the St Mary’s go in search of a Junior League and Championship double.
Teamtalkmag.com sought out a prominent figure in each of the Junior Clubs for their verdict on Sunday’s final and the results may well surprise you.
Liam Strain (Dregish). Derrytresk. I remember Derrytresk playing in a county final against Dregish around 1970, they have endured some lean times since then and it would be great for football to see them winning it. 1-0 Derrytresk
Gavin Mc Elroy (Carrickmore Thirds). Derrytresk. They are a tenacious, committed and very determined outfit whose forwards are more clinical. 2-0 Derrytresk.
Mark Donnelly (Fintona). Derrytresk. Best footballing side I have seen all year. They have a great balance about the team, a good set of forwards who move well and I just think they will be hungrier on the day. 3-0 Derrytresk.
John Lynch (Castlederg). Killeeshil. They have strength in depth with a good bench and at this level their forwards are excellent plus they have some very experienced players who know how to handle the big occasion. 3-1 Derrytresk.
Martin Cartin (Tattyreagh). Derrytresk. They have a great team spirit about them and have gelled really well this year. I love their never say die approach and they have a very lively set of forwards who are capable of taking their scores. 4-1 Derrytresk.
Eugene Mc Connell (Clogher). Derrytresk. Mainly because of the commitment, hard work and dedication put in by Paul Hughes and his players and I think that will bring them their reward. 5-1 Derrytresk.
Damien Corrigan (Beragh). Derrytresk. They are a complete unit and play really well as a team. They were very impressive in the semi final and if they play like that in the final they will win it. 6-1 Derrytresk.
Seamus Mc Gale (Drumquin). Derrytresk. They are the best team I have seen in Junior football all year and they have really put it together as a team for the championship. 7-1 Derrytresk
Kieran Kearney (Glenelly). Derrytresk. I think they have the better forwards and they will be slightly hungrier than Killeeshil. They have been up against it a few times already this year and showed what was in them when they were tested. 8-1 Derrytresk.
Gerard Cavlan (Dungannon). Derrytresk. We played both and I have to go for Derrytresk (sorry Hub) but the Hill men will have the hunger and I think that with Killeeshil having already won the league they just might not be as sharp. 9-1 Derrytresk.
Stephen Mc Hugh (Brackaville). Derrytresk. They look the hungrier side, they have great forwards with massive potential and without a title in forty years they will show serious hunger to win it. 10-1 Derrytresk.
Stephen Donnelly (Aghaloo). Derrytresk. Two very good sides but I think these lads see it as Derrytresk’s destiny to win their first ever championship title and write history for their club. It would be brilliant for football if they do. 11-1 Derrytresk.
Galvin Early (Owen Roes). Derrytresk. These lads are a new team playing with no pressure on them so I think they will surprise Killeeshil and beat them. 12-1 Derrytresk.
Peter Loughran (Errigal Ciaran Thirds) Derrytresk. I was very impressed with them against us in the championship. Every man knew his job and worked very hard for the team getting the ball to the men who could do the damage. 13-1 Derrytresk.
Adrian O’Kane (Drumragh). Derrytresk. Simply because of their dynamic full forward line. 14 -1 Derrytresk.
Kieran Mc Kiver ( Brockagh). Derrytresk. They play a real good brand of football and look like a real championship side. 15 -1 Derrytresk
So when it all adds up it seems there is either a huge groundswell of people hoping for a Derrytresk win or tipping them to win. Whatever way it works out you can follow it all here on www.teamtalkmag.com your first point of reference for all the latest most up to date GAA news within Tyrone.
