At halftime in the Junior championship match at Dromore between Drumquin and Clogher it was the Wolfe Tones who were looking well placed for victory as they led 2-7 to 0-4. Their two goals came courtesy of James Winters while ace forward Ryan Mc Callion helped himself to a few points against a porous looking Clogher defence.

The Eire Ogs did improve considerably scoring 2-5 in the second half with both goals coming from midfielder Damien Connolly and Daire Kavanagh  knocking over a few points. However it was a case of too little too late as Drumquin managed to keep them comfortably at arm’s length with second half scores from Packie O’Kane, Ryan Mc Crossan, Ryan Mc Callion and Paul Sheridan ensuring they made it through on a final score line Drumquin 2-14, Clogher 2-9.

The second game at Dromore was the derby clash between Fintona and Drumragh. League form would have suggested that Drumragh would be the fancied side in this one but Fintona made light of their underdogs tag with a commanding first half display that saw them lead at the break 2-4 to 0-3. Finona’s goals came from Mark Kelly and midfielder Niall Donnelly who also helped himself to two points. Drumragh struggled to gain any sort of penetration in the first half but Tommy Murphy and Martin Taggart did succeed in scoring for the Sarsfields.

Just like Clogher in the opening game Drumragh made a much better fist of things in the second half as they fought for every ball. However their cause was not helped when keeper Conor O’Doherty’s mistake was capitalised on by Kieran Hamilton to score the Pearses’ third goal. Drumragh did recover somewhat and a late Paul Maguire goal left the score reading 3-8 to 1-11 in favour of  Fintona but although the last few minutes were tense Fintona deservedly held on to win.
