Rock and Derrytresk will have to do it all over again at Coalisland next Sunday after they couldn’t be separated in the Junior championship final at Healy Park at the weekend, 0-9 each the final score. Scores may have been at a premium throughout but that doesn’t take away from the quality that was on show between two sides who gave it everything that they had in pursuit of the silverware.

With the league title already safely tucked in the bag Rock went into the game as favourites but they came up against a determined Derrytresk side who were looking to add to their 2011 success at this level. The St.Patricks had the wind at their backs in the first half and while Conor McCreesh, Aidan McGarrity and Enda McWilliams had points they still only led 0-6 to 0-3 at the break. It took Derrytresk twenty five minutes to open their account via a Joe McKee free before Michael Robinson and Cathal O’Neill registered as well.

In the early moments of the second half McCreesh knocked over a free to increase Rock’s advantage but then Derrytresk assumed control throughout the field. O’Neill and Caolan Corr both notched a brace with full forward Niall Gavin also on target as five unanswered points saw them turn things around to lead by the 12th minute. McCreesh and Eamon Ward stopped the rot for Rock as they took the lead again only for Liam Slater to fire over a superb equaliser. There was still eleven minutes left to play but that proved to be the last score of the game although there was still plenty of action. A McCreesh free came back of the post and in the last attack O’Neill had a chance to win it for Derrytresk but he fired narrowly wide. It’s all to play for at Father Campbell Park for what has all the ingredients of a cracking replay.
