Rock showed tremendous heart and commitment to come back from four points down early in the second half to win the Pat Darcy Cup and lift the 2019 Junior title.

In a game that will live long in the memory both sides contributed handsomely to one of the best Junior County Finals in years.

With Des Tracey and Matthew Mc Guigan in super form Kildress started well and when Caolan Mc Namee hit the net for the Wolfe Tones twenty minutes in they looked well placed to push on. However Rock began to win more ball around the midfield with Shane Murphy giving an exhibition of long range kicking.

With half time rapidly approaching and Kildress in front by four Rock won a penalty which was converted by ace marksman Liam Nugent. Nugent finished the game with 1-6 and was a constant threat throughout. Enda Mc Aleer and Shane Murphy swapped points in injury time to send the sides in tied at 1-7 apiece. The Wolfe Tones lost key man Phillip Lennon to injury late in the half and his absence impacted greatly on their second half performance.

Kildress and Des Tracey started the second half well hitting four points without reply before Murphy and Nugent got the ball rolling again for Rock. Mc Guigan and Tracey landed a brace of points each to put Kildress three clear with fifteen minutes remaining. Rock were forced to dig deep but when Aidan Mc Garrity hit the net after a strong run the momentum swung very much in favour of the St Patrick’s.

Four points in a row put Martin Hackett’s side in pole position as the clock ticked towards injury time. Kildress reduced the deficit to three with a late free from Matthew Mc Guigan but Rock held on to win 2-14 to 1-14 and deservedly claim the title.
