There were comfortable first round Junior Championship victories for Brackaville Owen Roes and Drumquin Wolfe Tones in Sunday evening’s double header at Greencastle.

Brackaville were always in charge against Glenelly and in spite of playing against the wind in the first half they reached the break 0-9 to 0-5 in front. Midfielders Sean Day and Rian Mc Hugh ensured a steady supply of possession to their forwards who capitalised on the chances they created while Glenelly were somewhat one dimensional relying heavily on Seamus Harkin for scores.

The second half began with Glenelly keen to make amends after a lack-lustre first period but in spite of a brace of early scores from Harkin the Plumbridge lads failed to build on that early momentum. Che O’Donnell found the target for Brackaville as did Sean Day but it was Sean Mc Nally’s 43rd minute goal that sealed the game. Ryan Mc Elhatton bagged a second goal for his side a minute later and after that there was no way back for their opponents.

Brackaville added a further five points to finish the game as 2-17 to 1-11 winners with Glenelly’s goal unsurprisingly coming from the foot of Seamus Harkin.

The second game also saw a brace of second half goals decide the outcome as Drumquin defeated Clan Na Gael 2-13 to 0-13. Drumquin bossed the first half with veterans Liam Patterson and Ryan Mc Callion heavily involved in much of their good play. Eamon Teague worked his socks off for the Wolfe Tones and landed four first half points to help his side to a 0-10 to 0-6 lead at the break.

Clan Na Gael would not have been too disappointed to be four behind considering they were playing with the aid of the breeze after the break. Points from Damien Ball, Brendan Conway and Danny Ball gave their side hope for the second period but that all disappeared as Drumquin hit the net twice inside the space of a minute courtesy of Brendan Gormley and Eamon Teague.

Unfortunately for Clan Na Gael they failed to recover from the concession of those two goals and although Daniel Ball and Aaron Devine added late points there was no denying Drumquin the win.
