Tyrone IFC Final 2024
Derrylaughan 1-10 Moy 0-11

Derrylaughan bridged a fourteen year gap since their last Intermediate Championship title when a brilliant early start for them helped pave the way to a two point success over Moy at Healy Park on Saturday evening. The Kevin Barrys led by five points after only ten minutes thanks to a superb Tomas Carney goal and while Moy staged a fine comeback their efforts just fell short as they lost out in the decider for the second year running.

Liam Gervin opened the scoring with a quality point from the right wing in the 2nd minute before a Carney free doubled their advantage. In the 7th minute GO Power man of the match Sean Robinson notched a brilliant point before a Michael Conroy free opened Moy’s account sixty seconds later. The only goal of the game arrived in the 10th minute and what a brilliant score it was as an outstanding pass from Brian Kennedy found Carney and he did the rest with an explosive finish to the top left hand corner of the net. Moy were stunned but they responded with midfielder Matthew Laverty driving over before Ryan Coleman knocked over a free to leave it 1-3 to 0-3 at the end of the opening quarter.

Colm O’Hagan, who was superb throughout for Derrylaughan, landed a point but Moy were beginning to find their feet with full forward Conroy converting a brace of frees before Coleman found the range with a quality effort from play. On the stroke of halftime Kennedy scored from a mark and that meant that Derrylaughan held a 1-5 to 0-6 advantage at the Short whistle.

As was the case in the first half it was the Loughshore men who were out of the traps the quickest on the restart with defender Ciaran O’Hagan hitting a fine point before a Carney free put four between the sides. Conroy scored from a mark as well as a long range free with James Donnelly on target from play from out on the left wing sandwiched in between those two scores. Another Carney free meant that Derrylaughan led 1-9 to 0-8 going into the final quarter.

The winners were to score just once more though as Moy staged a comeback. Halftime substitute Sean Cavanagh hit an inspirational point from distance before Laverty split the posts from out on the right wing to leave it a two point game. The momentum was now with Moy but Derrylaughan didn’t panic with the impressive Danny Ball hitting a crucial score with the outside of his boot. Back came Moy with another Coleman score while right at the end a Laverty shot whizzed right across the goalmouth and wide as Derrylaughan held out to take the silverware.
