Killeeshil Advance After First Half Blitz

Killeeshil St Mary’s are safely through to the quarter final of the LCC Tyrone Junior Football Championship following a six point win over Fintona in Tattyreagh on Saturday afternoon. The victors had a purple patch in the opening half hitting Fintona for 1-6 after the Pearses recorded the first point of the game through Conor McGoldrick.

The St Mary’s men had Liam Hughes, Ruairi O’Neill and Pascal Donaghy to thank for the opening three points before they hit the only goal of the game in the 21st minute. A neat Gary Reilly pass found Daniel Millar who cooly rounded Fintona keeper Barry Cunningham before slotting the ball to the net. Further points from Millar, Donaghy and Hughes eased Killeeshil to a 1-6 to 0-1 lead by the 37th minute of the first half when Fintona recorded their second point via Conor Starrs. Pascal Donaghy and Niall Mellon hit the last two scores of the half to leave the half time score Killeeshil 1-7 Fintona 0-3.

The second half was a much more evenly contested affair as Fintona playing with the breeze in their went a little more direct. Killeeshil outscored Finona 0-6 to 0-3 in the third quarter thanks to points from Hughes, O’Neill, Louis Conlon, and Gary Reilly while Aaron McCarney chipped in with the three Fintona points.

Fintona finished the stronger side in the last fifteen minutes with McCarney scoring all five of their points while Liam Hughes hit St Mary’s last two points of the game. Both sides finished the game with 14 men as Cathal Starrs and Pascal Donaghy saw red. Final Score – Killeeshil 1-14 Fintona 0-11.
