Killeeshil At A Crossroads!

It is amazing the difference a year can make in the life of a club. This time last year Killeeshil were on the crest of a wave as the team was on target to win a league and championship double in what was to be a year to remember for the club. Hopes were high that they could build on the consistency of last year’s league and championship form and establish themselves solidly in division two before making a push for a return to senior football. Sadly that is not how it has worked out as the St Mary’s have struggled to cope with the absence of several key players and with only three games left there is now a gap of seven points between them and the team closest to them. Their closest rivals Gortin and Clan na Gael both won today and those results mean Killeeshil cannot overtake either of these teams in the league table.

The stark reality of this fact means that unless they win the championship, like Killyman did a few years ago then they will be relegated to junior football for next year.

Today with Kevin Hughes back in the side they were hoping to get a result in Aghyaran which might provide them with a boost as the championship approaches. Unfortunately for them they came up against a team who are not only very hard to beat at home but who also needed the points to improve their league standing. Michael Anderson helped inspire his side to victory and that win, plus the other results meant that unless Killeeshil win this year’s Intermediate Championship then in season 2013 they will be back in Junior football.
