Killeeshil Ease Through To Junior Final
Saturday 28.09.2024
Killeeshil qualified for this year’s Junior championship decider with a workmanlike performance over Strabane in Healy Park on Friday night. A dominate opening twenty minutes saw Killeeshil race to a seven point advantage but they will be disappointed in how their performance dipped for the remainder of the contest.
Go Fuels man of the match Packie McMullan who played a pivotal role throughout opened the scoring with a long range free in the second minute. A confident St Marys side were on top in most sectors as Strabane struggled to get into the game. Paul O’Neill and a brace of Tomas Hoy scores saw the lead reach four by the 9th minute. A lovely point from Michael O’Neill and a point from Mark Monaghan saw the victors cruise to a six point lead as the game entered its second quarter. Michael Carty surged forward from half back to increase the lead.
Strabane needed a score and one of their best performers Gavin Molloy held his nerve to split the posts in the 20th minute. Both sets of players were guilty of wides as the half drew to a conclusion before Michael O’Neill and Kyle Morrison scored for their respective sides, to leave it 8-2 at the break.

Corner back Ciaran O’Neill kicked the opening score for Killeeshil, before they were temporarily reduced to 14, with Michael O’Neill picking up an early black card. Packie McMullan made a timely interception as Strabane pressed forward. A second Gavin Molloy point was Strabane’s return while having the numerical advantage.
The final quarter saw points from McMullan and Dillon O’Neill stretch Killeeshil’s lead. A brace of Haydn McNamee points reduced the deficit but the goal the Sigersons’ required never looked likely and late points from Cormac Donaghy and a third for Michael O’Neill confirmed their place in the final and kept Strabane in junior football for a second year.
