Killeeshil will face St Macartans after they qualified for the senior championship final for the second year in a row following a 2-9 to 2-7 win over Aodh Ruadh at Pomeroy on Sunday afternoon. However they were left hanging on somewhat as the Dungannon girls launched a determined comeback during the closing minutes when they narrowed the gap to two points.

A strong wind favoured Aodh Ruadh in the first half and although Niamh Hughes, Emma Jane Girvan and Aoife Mc Gahan looked dangerous at times they failed to establish a substantial lead. Maebh Mc Gleenan, Aoife Mc Gahan and Girvan hit early points but it was a goal from Mc Gahan after five minutes that gave Aodh Ruadh a near perfect start.

However Killeeshil refused to be out fought and with Grainne Rafferty, Sarah Nugent, Emma Louise Mulgrew and Orla Mulgrew in superb form they moved ahead following a converted penalty from Rafferty and a point from Shannon Stevenson. Stung by this, and with half time rapidly approaching, the Dungannon girls knocked over three points inside the closing three minutes to reach the break 1-6 to 1-4 in front.

The Killeeshil girls began the second half in fine form and hit 1-4 during the third quarter to take control of the tie. Grainne Rafferty(2), Zoe Loughran (1), Bronagh Mc Kenna (1) and a goal from the elusive Shannon Stephenson seemed to have secured the win for the St Mary’s. Four minutes later it appeared to be game, set and match when Grainne Rafferty extended Killeeshil’s lead to six.

With time running out Cora Mc Nulty finished a fine team move to the net before Emma Jane Girvan reduced the deficit to two points. However even though Killeeshil looked tired Aodh Ruadh were unable to get the scorers they needed and Killeeshil held out to win 2-9 to 2-7.
