Killeeshil 4-13 Moy 5-9

Killeeshil are Grade 3 U14 league champions after having the minimum to spare in a thrill a minute decider at Pearse Park in Galbally on Saturday afternoon.

It was a contest that showcased all that is good in Gaelic football between two well drilled sides who gave it everything in pursuit of glory. Moy enjoyed a dream start with a first minute goal from Finn O’Neill but by the 10th minute Killeeshil had tagged on 1-4 without reply with Jamie Connolly getting the goal and Matthew Donaghy and Bobby Foster among their points. Moy though then grabbed another goal through Tiarnan McGlone but almost immediately Ghost Pizza man of the match Charlie Hughes blasted home at the other end of the field.

Hughes and Connolly tagged on points before the latter got his second goal of the game. Killeeshil were well on top at this stage with Hughes, Luke Keown and Donaghy all adding to their advantage to give them a commanding 3-10 to 2-0 interval lead.

Moy came out for the second half with all guns blazing and O’Neill got his second goal only for Hughes to respond in kind at the other end of the field. Moy though had the bit between their teeth and a goal from Charlie Conroy was followed by points from Joe McKearney, Jack Harvey and Conroy as they fought their way back into contention.

Hughes and O’Neill swapped points before a second Conroy goal reduced the deficit to just three points with five minutes left to play. Two minutes later Moy centre half forward Donal Devlin finish in style to the roof of the net to leave it all square. Moy had all the momentum but in a frantic finish Killeeshil full forward Barry Daly swung over the winner much to the delight of the St.Marys faithful to bring an epic to a close.
