Killeeshil Minors Claim Grade 3 Double
Saturday 22.07.2023

Killeeshil claimed a grade three minor double on Saturday evening when they got the better of Pomeroy on a score line of 2-11 to 2-10 but it took extra time and serious effort after they were pushed to the limit by a very capable Pomeroy side.
This was a game that was high on quality and high on drama as both sides played their part in making it a top class match in spite of the terrible weather conditions. Killeeshil’s settled first and raced into a 1-3 to no score lead after eight minutes with their goal coming from Cara Mc Coubrey and points from Mc Coubrey, Zarah Fearon and Aine Gormley.
However any thoughts that this was going to be one way traffic soon disappeared as Caitlin Stewart, Rebecca Rafferty, Aimee Rafferty and Chloe Murphy carried the fight to their opponents. Points from Rochella Mc Callan, Chloe Murphy and Aimee Rafferty gave the Plunketts a foothold in the game before a goal from Aoibhean Slean helped send them off at the break leading 1-7 to 1-4.
Pomeroy stretched their lead after the break with a goal from Lucie Murphy but from then until the end of the second half Killeeshil dominated and hit the scores which took the game to extra time. A converted Zara Fearon penalty and two points from the same player and a fine score from Aine Gormley saw time run out for both sides and extra time required to separate the sides.
Extra time saw both sides really go for it with both defences and goalkeepers outstanding. Eventually however Killeeshil prevailed on a final score of 2-11 to 2-10.
