Killeeshil travelled to Kildress on Saturday evening knowing that their hopes of competing in Intermediate football in 2021 depended on a positive result against the 2020 Junior Champions.

The visitors looked up for the challenge right from the off and with Pascal Donaghy and Tomas Hoy both in fine scoring form they had the hosts on the back foot from early on. Donaghy, Hoy and Daniel Miller were on target in the opening twelve minutes while Steve Loughran and Mattie Mc Guigan replied for Kildress.

Shea Quinn pointed for the home side before Hoy and Donaghy pointed to put Killeeshil two clear. During the closing minutes of the first half Killeeshil stretched their lead to three with Donaghy (2) and Hoy again on target. A point from Caolan Mc Namee and a converted 45 from Pauric Lagan sent the Wolfe Tones off at the break trailing 0-8 to 0-5.

Killeeshil began the second half in blistering form hitting four points without reply to move seven clear. Hoy, Donaghy (2) and Caolan Monaghan were the men on target. A Mattie Mc Guigan free for Kildress got the comeback started and points from Paul Connolly, Enda Mc Aleer and Shea Quinn (2) meant it was game on.

With time running out a goal from Mc Guigan had the sides level and the game in the balance. However just when it looked like the game was heading for a draw Killeeshil pushed forward once more and Paul Donaghy converted a last gasp free to seal the win and prolong their season.

Final score: Kildress 1-10 Killeeshil 0-14
