The early throw in this afternoon at Ballinamullen has so far failed to produce any great return in terms of scores. The sides are level 0-5 apiece after a low scoring but fairly entertaining first half. The teams exchanged points early on with Caolan Daly and Simon O’Neill on target. Leo Meenan, Conor Gormley and Martin Penrose then swapped scores as the teams reached the midway point of the first half level at 0-3, 0-3. There was little between the teams throughout the opening period and it was no surprise that they reached half time level 0-5 apiece with Carrickmore’s other scores coming from the boot of county man Mark Donnelly. Conall Mc Cann and Simon O’Neill hit the home team’s two remaining points of the first half.

The second half of the game was close for long periods but Carrickmore’s quality up front told in the end with Martin Penrose, Mark Donnelly and Conor Gormley all playing prominent roles in their team’s victory. With the sides level 0-9 apiece Penrose put Carrickmore ahead with a free which was followed by late points from Finbarr Magill, Johnathan Munroe, Barry Daly and Penrose himself to seal a five point win 0-14 to 0-9.
