Killyclogher were crowned Division One Champions on Sunday afternoon after a hard fought 1-9 to 0-8 victory over a resolute Dromore side at Carrickmore.

In a low scoring game Killyclogher’s ability to make the most of their chances and to limit the scoring threat from the Dromore side proved significant in the final outcome. Mark Bradley, Conal Mc Cann, Marty Swift and their colleagues made up for their championship exit at the hands of the same opposition with a well deserved win and title.

Conditions made good football difficult as disciplined defending by both sides ensured chances were few and far between. However Killyclogher made the most of their limited first half opportunities when Mark Bradley showed considerable composure to score a twentieth minute goal. That score came after Aidy Kelly had been black carded and was replaced by Decky Leonard. The goal put Killyclogher two ahead but a fine Ruairi Sludden point left only a point between the sides at the break.

In the second half Bradley’s movement and pace caused countless problems for Dromore resulting in yellow cards for several Dromore defenders. Wing back Emmett O’Neill received a second yellow card following a clash with Danny Gorman. Killyclogher initially made good use of their extra man to move four points ahead but all that changed inside a three minute spell from the 48th minute when poor decision making at the back allowed Ruairi Sludden to reduce the gap to a single point on a 1-6 to 0-8 score line.

The game was very much in the melting pot at this stage and with wind advantage in spite of being a man down Dromore looked the team most likely to push on and win. However a superb settling score from Conal Mc Cann turned the game once more in favour of Killyclogher. They managed to do enough to edge it out by four with late scores from James Carlin and Leo Meenan in spite of losing key defender Martin Swift to a second yellow card just before the end.

Final score: Killyclogher 1-9, Dromore 0-8.

Killyclogher scorers – James Carlin 0-4, Mark Bradley 1-1, Conall McCann 0-2, Leo Meenan 0-2

Dromore scorers – Ruairi Sludden 0-6, Emmett O’Neill 0-1, Sean McNabb 0-1
