Killyclogher 2-8 0-13 Omagh

Killyclogher grabbed victory from the jaws of defeat when unlikely hero Sean Broderick, making his championship debut,  smashed the ball to the net in the dying seconds of added time. After dominating the second half Omagh will wonder how they left this one behind them. Killyclogher will point out that they held their local rivals scoreless in the opening twenty minutes of the game which will be long remembered by the big crowd in Carrickmore due to that dramatic finish.

Killyclogher raced into an early lead when  Tiernan McCann opened the scoring in their first attack. Further points from Dara Hayes Gavin Potter and Michael Rafferty saw the victors lead by four after ten minutes. Killyclogher were in control and it was no shock when they hit the net. Matthew Murnaghan’s shot was well saved but Gavin Potter had the easiest of finishes with twelve minutes played. Omagh were struggling but Killyclogher failed to build on their dominance and a Mark Bradley free was the solitary addition to the scoreboard. Conor O’Donnell got Omagh off the mark and another O’Donnell point and a Ronan O’Neill free gave them some hope as they entered the changing rooms five behind.

Omagh produced a stunning second half with Conan Grugan dominating midfield, Conor O’Donnell was organising his troops and Oisin Miller was outstanding up front. Miller kicked a 45 and Fionnbarr Taggart found the target before Dara Hayes kicked Killyclogher’s first score in fifteen minutes. A huge O’Neill free from beyond 50 metres reduced the gap to two, O’Donnell’s third and a Grugan point from distance levelled the game with twelve minutes remaining. All the momentum was now with Omagh and points from Ciaran McLaughlin and a brace from Miller saw the lead grow to three.

When the recently introduced Bradley Fox kicked a point in the first of five minutes additional time Killyclogher’s hopes looked gone. Late points from Bradley and Potter set up the grandstand finish, in the final seconds full back Danny Gorman’s shot was blocked but it fell to corner back Broderick to rifle home the winner.

Killyclogher will now face Carrickmore in a mouth watering quarter final clash.
