Killyman 2-15 Dregish 2-6

Killyman justified their favourites tag when they had a comfortable nine point success over Dregish at Dunmoyle last Saturday to make it through to their third major championship final in recent years.

Apart from the opening three minutes when their opponents hit 1-2 without reply it was a contest that the St.Marys always had the upper hand in and after falling behind they held their opponents scoreless for half an hour before Dregish got a late consolation goal to put a slightly better look on the final score board.

To their credit Dregish put it up to Killyman but in the final twenty five minutes or so there was only one team in it as the St.Marys outscored their opponents 1-10 to 1-0 to set up an intriguing final clash against a Stewartstown side who also know what it takes to go all the way in this championship. The winners’ half back line of Gerard Hughes, Emmett Hughes and Declan Boyle helped lay the platform for this win with Ciaran Og Hughes getting through a mountain of work in the midfield engine room. Up front the superb Michael Donnelly top scored with eight points while there were also valuable contributions from Ryan Hughes, Eddie Holland and full forward Fintan McVeigh. After taking some notable scalps on their run to the semi finals this proved to be a bridge too far for Dregish who failed to stay with Killyman once they got the bit between their teeth in the second half. Niall O’Kane, Sean Floyd and Philip O’Donnell worked hard in their defence as did the McCrossans Fergus and Peter in midfield but they lacked a cutting edge up front with Christopher O’Kane’s late goal the only score from play that the starting forwards managed over the course of the sixty odd minutes.
