LADIES| Comfortable Win For Macartans
Saturday 10.09.2016
Macartans went into Saturday’s Senior club final with Killeeshil as the warmest of hot favourites in search of an eighth senior club title.
Even from early in the game the outcome was never in doubt as a superbly drilled and very fit Macs team produced some excellent attacking football on their way to a 2-16 to 1-4 win.
Macartans played into the breeze in the first half but were 0-4 to 0-1 in front after ten minutes with Chloe Mc Caffrey, Maura Mc Menamin and Cathy Donnelly (2) on target. Grainne Rafferty responded for Killeeshil with their opening score but the girls in green and white found the pace and movement of the Donnelly’s, Slaine Mc Carroll and Shauna Mc Girr difficult to cope with.
Ryan Mc Menamin’s team missed several great chances of goals but still reached the break 0-9 to 0-2 in front.
Killeeshil needed a good start to the second half but in spite of the best efforts of Emma Mulgrew and Lisa Marie Skeffington Macartans continued to dominate the game creating many chances and converting most.
Leading 0-12 to 0-3 Macs ended the game as a contest when Cathy Donnelly and Chloe Mc Caffrey bagged a goal apiece in the twelfth minute of the second half.
The Clogher Valley side continued to play superb football and Killeeshil keeper Cathy Donaghy made a host of superb saves to prevent her team from being totally humiliated. Louise Kelly converted a 23rd minute penalty for Killeeshil but it had little bearing on the outcome and Macartans comfortably lifted championship title number eight.
