Galbally ladies staged a superb second half comeback in Saturday’s Junior league decider to defeat Castlederg 3-6 to 1-9.

The Pearses had heroes aplenty but a special word of mention must go to goalkeeper Laura Kane who made seven brilliant stops to help her team to the title.

The Derg girls will be left to rue a disappointing end to a promising season but will take strength from the quality of their performances in both league and championship.

With Shannon Lynch and Roisin Devlin in outstanding form The North Tyrone girls raced into a 1-4 to no score lead inside the opening ten minutes. However Galbally kept plugging away and with goalkeeper Kane pulling out all the stops they reached the break 1-7 to 1-3 down after Eimear Tally punched the ball to the net right on the stroke of half time.

Galbally were a transformed side after the break. Catherine Walker, Amy Carberry, Eimear Tally and Claire Mc Keown began to dominate possession and create chances. Niamh Donnelly found the net to leave one between the teams midway through the second half before Eimear Tally drew them level.

Catherine Walker scored a superb individual goal with a well placed daisy cutter to put Galbally three up with ten left. Questions were now being asked of the Derg and they responded in fine style. Laura Mc Sorley, Roisin Devlin, Sara O’Brien and Shannon Lynch all had chances but Kane in the Galbally goal was superb.

With time up Shannon Lynch fired one final shot goal-ward but the keeper once again got her toe to it and turned it onto the post to deny the Derg and secure the league title for a delighted Galbally team.

Credit to both sides for producing a high quality and very sporting game.
