The focus for Tyrone on Sunday is firmly about getting back on track after the set back of a three point loss last weekend to Tipperary. Gerry Moane’s side sit fourth in the division two table ahead of the first of two Ulster derbies over the next couple of weeks with first up a trip to the Athletic Grounds for a high noon showdown against Armagh.

The Orchard side earned their first points of the season last Sunday with a comprehensive win over Sligo and under the management of Fionnuala McAtamney and Lorraine McCaffrey they are determined to get Armagh back to the top flight after last year’s relegation. Aimee Mackin remains the talisman scoregetter for Armagh with international netballer Caroline O’Hanlon still pulling the strings.

The sides last met in the league in 2016, on that occasion at Drumquin the visitors ran out comfortable winners over an experimental Tyrone. While there will be changes to the Tyrone line up again this weekend there remains a solid and stable look. Manager Moane feels though his attack must be more clinical.

“We had a few very good chances against Tipperary. We lacked composure and we must address that in the games still to come. I feel if we can be more ruthless, but that said we have four games still to go and promotion remains the target.”

Tyrone travel to Armagh this week before they host Cavan on March 3rd as part of the GAA/LGFA national leagues double header at Healy Park. Then it’s Clare at home and Laois away to wrap up the league campaign. A semi-final spot is very much within Tyrone’s grasp but as Moane admitted his players need something form the two Ulster derbies.

“I really think we need something from the Armagh and Cavan games. They will be real tests. They are senior championship sides so it will be a real test for us. After last week I know we are not far away but we have work to do”
