Lidl Ladies National Football League

Tyrone 0-3

Armagh 3-20

Tyrone ladies suffered a heavy loss to Armagh as their delayed Lidl National Football League campaign got underway at rain lashed Drumquin. It was Armagh under Ronan Clarke that dominated this division one tie from the off and they led 1-8 to 0-2 at the break before coasting to a twenty six point win 3-20 to 0-3.

Granted this was a youthful and inexperienced Tyrone side with a host of new players. Obviously a lack of match practice having only been together under Gerry Moane for a week also contributed to the poor display. However it was still a heavy defeat and suggests this league campaign will prove very difficult.

Tyrone struggled against a strong breeze in that first half with the Orchard side creating a host of chances. Aimee Mackin, Caroline O’Hanlon and Lauren McConville all landed well taken scores while only Michaela Mc Guigan  and Siobhan Sheerin managed to find the range for Tyrone.

As the home side struggled up front to carve out scores some stout defending was called for and four outstanding saves from debutant goalkeeper Laura Kane kept Tyrone in the game. The Galbally keeper denied O’Hanlon and Mackin from point blank range while Christiane Hunter and Tori McLaughlin were also on hand to clear goal chances before Kelly Mallon did direct her effort past Kane nineteen minutes in.

The loss through injury of Kane and Hunter within seven minutes of the restart was a key setback and despite replacement custodian Grainne McAnenly making a splendid stop from Mackin, she could not prevent a further two goals from McConville and McCoy.

The Orhcard girls powered on to seal a comfortable 3-20 to 0-3 win with Grainne Raferty adding a third Tyrone point. This was certainly a disappointing day all round with the only highlight for Tyrone being the superb performance of new goalkeeper Kane .
