All Ireland Under 16 B semi-final

Tyrone 3-13

Longford 5-8

A strong second half performance sadly wasn’t enough to edge Tyrone through to the all Ireland final as Longford snatched a one point win at Mullahoran. Kamilla Burke hit a late goal and proceeded to tag on the winning point for the Midlanders deep into injury time after the red hand girls had dominated the second half.

Longford got into their stride early on leading 2-4 to no score before Tyrone troubled the scoreboard seventeen minutes in. Early Longford points from Lauren Maguire and Grace Shannon were followed by a well taken Kate Shannon goal and Grace was on hand to crash home a second goal with ten minutes on the clock, Tyrone struggling with the pace and power of the Leinster girls.

Meave Mc Crystal led the Tyrone fightback with the first of two goals in the second quarter, points from Emma Loane, Aoife Horisk and Kate Comiskey closed the gap to six by the break.

Loane tagged on an early second half point and a blistering run from Commiskey should have been rewarded with a goal but she steered her effort wide. Points from Rhianne Monaghan and Mc Crystal though closed the gap further before a perfectly weighted Longford penalty looked to have pulled them out of reach. Tyrone however, refused to throw in the towel and came back with real purpose.

Inspired by some great work from Loane, Monaghan, Mc Crystal, Caireen O’Neill and Meave Mc Sorley with Eimear Mc Garrity , Leah Martin and Dungannon’s Beth Jones assured at the back Tyrone hit 1-4 without reply. The goal from Horisk and a well taken long range effort from O’Neill drew Tyrone level.

A well worked move culminated in a Sasha Laird point that nudged Tyrone ahead for the first time on 52 minutes as influential  Longford attacker Molly Mulvihill was yellow carded. The Ulster champions and the fancied Longford both squandered scoreable chances as the tension rose.

With two minutes of normal time remaining Burke managed to steer a shot under the impressive Anna Grew, yet patient Tyrone responded to level things again through the accuracy of Loane. Deep into injury time though Burke broke Tyrone hearts as she swung over a fine match winning point.

Tyrone Scorers: Meave Mc Crystal 2-3, Aoife Horisk 1-1, Emma Loane 0-4, Rhiane Monaghan 0-2, Caireen O’Neill 0-1, Sasha Laird 0-1, Kate Comiskey 0-1
