LADIES| Macartans Through To League Final.
Friday 02.09.2016
St Macartans warmed up for their county final clash with a very polished 5-17 to 0-4 win over Carrickmore on Thursday night in the Ladies Senior League Semi-final.
The result of this one was never in doubt as the home side raced into a 2-5 to 0-1 lead with only ten minutes on the clock. Goals from Joline Donnelly and Maura Mc Menamin as well as points from Cathy Donnelly, Chloe Mc Caffrey and Shauna Mc Girr gave Mc Cartans the perfect start.
Chloe Mc Caffrey found the net again for her team’s third goal on thirteen minutes and further points followed as the county finalists produced some sharp and incisive football. Chloe Monroe replied with two late first half points for Carrickmore but as the half time whistle sounded it was Macs who were in the driving seat leading 3-10 to 0-3.
Any chance the visitors had of staging a second half comeback ended inside the first two minutes when Kirsty Mc Caughey and Chloe Mc Caffrey both hit the net.
With one eye on next weekend’s final the pace petered out a bit but not before Macartans added further points with Paula Donnelly, Tara Meabh Mc Carroll and Shannon Mc Quade among the scorers. Meave Mc Elroy was the sole second half scorer for a disappointing Carrickmore.
This win takes Macartans through to the league decider where they will meet the winners of the other semi-final between Errigal Ciaran and Aodh Ruadh.
