Ulster senior Club Championship semi-final
St Macartan’s 2-13
Moville 2-10
Chloe McCaffrey again top scored for Tyrone senior champions St Macartans as they booked their place in the Ulster club final against Donaghmoyne. Young McCaffrey scored 1-5, her goal coming just thirty seconds into their semi-final contest with Moville at Augher to help the Macs edge the tie by three points on a score of 2-13 to 2-10.
The hosts led 1-11 to 1-3 at the break after getting off to a flier although as expected the Donegal side rallied after the break scoring 1-4 without reply in the final eight minutes of a highly entertaining game. Their goal was perhaps of a fortunate nature but the Tyrone girls had done enough to seal a memorable win and in doing so maintain their fine unbeaten run which stretches back to the 2015 county final.
Despite a powerhouse start from Macs with McCaffrey’s 1-3 and point from Paula Donnelly, Moville buoyed by Cara McGunness’s 18th minute goal and all star nominee Niamh Hegarty’s display came back into the match but failed to build on several opportunities as the Macs defence coped well.
Scores from McCaffrey and Cathy Donnelly increased the home side’s lead early in the second half and Donnelly was on hand to set up Shauna McGirr for the Macs second goal on the twenty minute mark of the half to leave it 2-13 to 1-6.
Credit to the Moville girls they did come back with late scores. However the quality of Lynda Donnelly, Slaine McCarroll and Maura Mc Menamin told throughout. This was a spirited hard working performance from the Tyrone champions on a rain lashed heavy sod. With a place in the decider at the end of the month against the most successful of Ulster clubs at stake Macs at were not going to be denied and they can now look forward to a provincial decider with Monaghan’s Donaghmoyne.
Chloe McCaffrey 1-5, Shauna McGirr 1-0, Paula Donnelly 0-3, Cathy Donnelly 0-3, Joline Donnelly 0-1, Maura McMenamin 0-1
Ulster Junior Championship
Coalisland 1-7
Kingscourt 5-9
There was no happy ending for Coalisland on Saturday as they lost, heavily to a rampant Kingscourt in the Ulster junior semi-final. The absence of the injured Lynette McShane and suspended Una Robinson were key factors in this defeat. Coalisland were very much in the contest until the closing stages but the Cavan side turned up the heat and rattled in a couple of late goals which put something of a gloss on the their win.
Meanwhile in Tyrone club football Cill Iseal completed a fine weekend for the club when they defeated Aghyaran in the Grade 1 Tyrone Minor League Final.
Aghyaran 3-11 Cill Iseal 6-7.
