Tyrone Handball delight as McCrory secures Team Ireland place
There was further delight for Tyrone handball supporters in Kilglass over the weekend as Eilise McCrory secured her place on Team Ireland as the Ladies Open Singles representative following a series of impressive performances.
Representing Tyrone with distinction, McCrory first booked her place in the final with a convincing semi-final victory over Aoife McCarthy. That win set up a highly anticipated decider against Cíana Ní Churraoin, with a coveted Team Ireland jersey on the line.
The final lived up to expectations and provided spectators with a high-quality contest between two of the country’s leading players. McCrory made a strong start, taking the opening game 15-9 with a composed and confident display of handball. Ní Churraoin responded well in the second game to level the match and force a tie-breaker.
However, McCrory showed tremendous determination and composure in the deciding game, raising her performance once again to take the breaker 11-5 and secure a deserved victory.
The achievement marks another major milestone for McCrory and is a proud moment for her family, club and Tyrone handball as she now joins fellow Tyrone players Lucy McCullagh and Laura McElduff in earning Team Ireland representation.
Credit was also paid to Kilglass Handball Club for hosting a superb weekend of action and providing excellent hospitality throughout the event.
Attention now turns to next weekend, when McCrory and Ní Churraoin will team up in the doubles competition as they look to secure another Team Ireland place.
