There has been much debate and discussion throughout the county since the CCC announced the schedule of games for next weekend. The decision to arrange club championship fixtures for the same day as the Ladies All Ireland final has upset quite a few GAA followers within the county. The result is that instead of looking forward to the game and the occasion the county has become preoccupied with an unwanted sideshow and distraction.

Ladies PRO Paddy Hunter provided us with a statement from County Chairperson Donna Mc Crory earlier today.

“It is extremely disappointing that the Tyrone GAA CCC have confirmed that there will be no movement on their decision to play club championship games on Sunday, when OUR Tyrone Ladies are representing the whole county in the All Ireland Final.

I totally understand that the CCC need the fixtures completed, but the scheduling of the Greencastle v Ardboe/ Omagh and Errigal Ciaran v Carrickmore on Sunday afternoon creates the possibility that 8 girls from the 4 clubs above could be starting the final on Sunday, which is more than half the team. Therefore followers of these clubs face the decision of having to choose one or the other, a predicament that is being forced upon them as a result of the decision taken by Tyrone CCC. This could have been avoided as the CCC was furnished with the information required to prevent a clash.

The GAA to me is all about the family. It is certainly not about familes having to choose either to watch their daughter/club mate in an All Ireland final or their son/club mate in a senior championship game.

All Ireland finals don’t come around every year, and when they do, they need to be embraced and enjoyed and I would implore every Tyrone GAA supporter to get behind the Tyrone Ladies in their quest for All Ireland glory.”
