Tyrone Ladies made it through to the Ulster Intermediate Final following a facile win over Down on Saturday afternoon at Emyvale.

An Aine Canavan goal straight from the throw in was the perfect start for the Red Hands and Gerry Moane’s side never looked back. Chloe Mc Caffrey, Caitlin Kelly, Niamh Hughes and Gemma Begley all found the net during a very impressive first half.

However while their attacking play was very effective credit must also go to the defence which harried and hassled Down all afternoon forcing turnovers and mistakes time and time again. Emma Mulgrew, Niamh Mc Girr, Emma Brennan, Slaine Mc Carroll, Joanne Barrett and Aimee Daly were excellent throughout and restricted the Mourne girls to very few chances in what was a very dominant display.

The midfield pairing of Neamh Woods and Emma Jane Gervin dovetailed excellently covering their defence when required while at the same time providing an extra pair of hands in the attack when the need arose.

Tyrone went in at the break leading 5-11 to 0-4 and introduced Maria Canavan for the restart. The Errigal forward gave an exhibition of place kicking and creative play as she helped herself to 1-7 in the second half while Caitlin Kelly bagged a second goal on her championship debut.

Tyrone coasted to victory and were in control throughout the second period. Indeed even when they lost forwards Kelly and Mc Caffrey to yellow cards they continued to dominate and score at will as they qualified for the 2018 Ulster Intermediate Final. In it they will face either Down or Fermanagh who meet in the other semi final next weekend.
