Westmeath proved too strong for Tyrone Ladies in the All-Ireland U14 “B” semi-final in Bawnboy, Co. Cavan on Saturday.

The Red Hand girls started brightly but were only able to convert this early possession into one score with a point from Chloe McCafferty. However, the girls from the Lake County grew stronger as the first period went on and Tyrone will have been disappointed to have conceded three soft goals leaving them a huge hill to climb even at that early stage to claw themselves back into the game.  Points from Bronagh McKenna, Chloe McCafferty and Shannon Stevenson kept Tyrone in touch going in at half-time with a six point deficit.

Tyrone again began strongly at the start of the  second-half with a point from Caitlin Kelly but their failure to keep possession was punished by Westmeath who kept the scoreboard ticking over and eased into a 14 point lead with 15 minutes left to play. A well-taken goal by Orla Kennedy signalled a possible comeback by the Red Hands who were now dominating the game. However, they failed to convert a penalty kick which would have reduced the deficit even further and as the clock ran down two superb goals from Bronagh McKenna were nothing more than consolation for Tyrone as Westmeath progressed to play Waterford in the All-Ireland Final.
