Armagh 0-6 Tyrone 6-16
The Tyrone U16s opened their Ulster Championship game with an impressive performance against Armagh in Camlough on Saturday afternoon. The Red Hand girls never looked back after Aimee Coyle’s goal in the second minute. From the Armagh kick out Tyrone won possession and worked the ball into Coyle who again hit the back of the net. Dearbhala McDonald then extended Tyrone’s lead with a point from play. As Armagh battled to get onto the score sheet the referee bizarrely awarded a penalty to Armagh after an Armagh forward jumped into Tyrone full-back Megan McMenamin. The resulting kick was duly dispatched over the bar for a point. However, the Red Hand girls replied with another point from the boot of Dearbhala McDonald and continued to dominate the remainder of the first period with further scores from McDonald (2-0), Sasha Byrne (1-1), Aimee Coyle (0-2), Roisin Devlin (0-1), Sinead Donnelly (0-2) and Shannon Stevenson (0-1) while conceding only 2 further points to Armagh.

Armagh opened the second half strongly refusing to give up this game without a fight and recorded two points before Shannon Stevenson struck a long range point from play for Tyrone. Armagh were now crowding their defence and the Red Hand girls were finding scores more difficult to get but substitute Chloe McCaffrey hit the target after a strong run through the Armagh defence. This was followed up with another point from Shannon Stevenson and then Sinead Donnelly worked hard to make an opening for herself and struck the ball into the Armagh net. Chloe McCaffrey and Shannon Stevenson (0-2) added points from play as the match entered the last ten minutes. Despite losing Emma Brennan to a yellow card and with both teams tiring Tyrone were able to see out the game with scores from Dearbhala McDonald and Aoibheann McHugh.
