Ladies Under 21s Enjoy Comfortable Win
Sunday 19.05.2013
Tyrone Ladies U21s launched their Aisling McGing Cup campaign with a comfortable win over Antrim in Belfast on Sunday afternoon. The Red Hand girls were much too strong for an Antrim side which included several members of last year’s All-Ireland Junior Championship winning team.
This was an effective all round team performance from Tyrone who dominated throughout and finished the game with a 22 point advantage over the Saffrons. Nicola Rafferty had a top drawer game scoring 11 points with 6 coming from play while Cara McCrossan impressed in the full forward line scoring 2-2. Nicola Donnelly worked very hard in midfield weighing in with 4 points for the Red Hands while half-back Emma Jane Gervin contributed 3 very well taken scores.
After the game manager Mickey Rea was satisfied with both the win and the general effort and performance but was disappointed that the defence had conceded three goals to Antrim’s Mairead Cooper. “This was good enough today, but we’ll have to pick it up for next week’s game against Armagh. We let Antrim score three goals today which we can’t afford to do against stronger sides and still expect to win”.
