Glenelly 6-9 Lisnaskea 0-10

Glenelly are through to their first Ulster club final and they certainly reached the decider in style, easing past former Ulster and all Ireland champions Lisnaskea by seventeen points in front of a massive home support.

As early as the 25th second Glenelly signalled their intent as Aishling O’Kane rattled a post. Warming to their task however they soon found the target. O’Kane finished the game with 1-2 and Siobhan Sheerin racked up an impressive 3-3 with sister Nicola Bradley and Patricia Morris also adding goals on a day when their non-stop running and support play caused the Fermanagh side no end of trouble.

By half time the Tyrone champions had opened up a 3-6 to 0-4 lead but this could have been even greater but for the profligacy of their forwards. At the back Edel O’Kane and Michaela Morris were in top form nullifying the threat of Aine Martin and Sharon Little. The Fermanagh champions first half scores came from three Caroline Little frees and a point from Cliodhna McElroy.

The second half saw St Josephs turn up the heat again. Sheerin completed her hat-trick with two fine goals before Aisling O’Kane held off three defenders as she pushed along the end line before firing to the net and the county player finished off the move off the day to land a stunning point.

There was to be no stopping the home side as Noel O’Kane’s side worked hard all over the park and every player delivered from keeper Kellie Morris who made two great saves  to full forward Sheerin, this was the perfect performance with history made.

Scorers

Glenelly: Siobhan Sheerin 3-3, Aisling O’Kane 1-2, Patricia Morris 1-1, Nicola Bradley 1-0, Fiona Marie Devlin 0-2, Eilis Kearney 0-1,

Lisnaskea: Caroline Little 0-5, Sharon Little 0-3, Cliodhna McElroy 0-1, Claire Reilly 0-1

ERRIGAL CIARAN  1-6

TERMON  1-10

All Ireland club champions Termon were put to the pins of their collar by a determined Errigal Ciaran at Dunmoyle on Sunday but Roisin Friel’s goal just after half time turned out to be a crucial score for the Donegal side as they emerged from a real  battle with the Tyrone champions with four points to spare.

Errigal had a strict game plan and it proved effective in the main with Termon’s ace attacker Geraldine McLaughlin held to just 0-3 on the day with only one of those points coming from play. Termon were more than grateful for Maureen O’Donnell’s  points and that Friel goal as Errigal pushed them all the way. Indeed the Tyrone champions may look back on this one with regret knowing they should have found the net on several other occasions.

After points from Cailin McCann and Maria Canavan the home side defended well and attacked with pace on the break. Olive McCafferty raised Termon’s only white flag in the opening twenty minutes of football. Lycrecia Quinn’s stinging effort was well saved and McCann rattled the crossbar as Errigal continued to press but it was Termon who led 6-4 at the break.

Within minutes of the restart Friel scored that goal but there was a quick response when Tyrone championship top scorer Shannon Monaghan found the Termon net herself. Quinn’s long ball was collected by Canavan who got the ball away somehow to Monaghan who rolled the ball over the line.

The teams traded points in a tie that was spoiled at times by some negative stalling tactics from the Donegal side. McLaughlin landed two massive frees for them and they looked safely home but back came Errigal again and they were still very much in the game as it swung into injury time.

Errigal trailed by four but took the game to Termon. The hosts hit a couple of wides as they threw everything into attack and created several goal chances too. Aine Canavan’s effort flashed inches wide as Termon lost two players to the sin bin but the Termon defence held on to secure a place in the final.

Credit to Errigal, they turned in some shift with some great displays all across the park. Meabh Corrigan did a great job on McLaughlin while Shannon Quinn, Maria Canavan, Kelly Marie McRory and Lycrecia Quinn were all candidates for player of the match.

SCORERS

ERRIGAL: Shannon Monaghan 1-0, Maria Canavan 0-3, Aine Canavan 0-1, Cailin McCann 0-1, Lycrecia Quinn 0-1
