Substitute Ryan McShane proved to be the Owen Roes hero at Healy Park on Friday night when he converted a long range free in injury time as they edged past Aghaloo on a 1-8 to 1-7 scoreline.

The winners were out of the traps quickly with points from Seamus Dooher, Cathal McShane and Conall McCormack coming either side of a Ryan McAleer goal. Niall McElroy opened Aghaloo’s account with a goal and the same player kicked a couple of points to close the gap to 1-4 to 1-2 at halftime.

Miceal Muldoon and Brian McKenna helped level matters on the restart before McElroy put Aghaloo in front. Respective keepers Chris Dynes and Andy Devine both made good saves during the game and with time running out Ryan and Cathal McShane put Owen Roes two in front. McElroy and Ruairi McGlone helped level matters and at that stage it looked like extra time. Owen Roes kicked 13 wides over the course of the game and it looked like costing them dear until that late winner from Ryan McShane.
