Tyrone and Mayo met in the All Ireland Minor Championship at St Patrick’s Park in Omagh on Sunday afternoon. Late into a close and competitive encounter Tyrone looked set for victory as they led by three points deep into injury time. Unfortunately for the home side Mayo star player Hannah Hauttman plundered a goal right at the death to level the scores at 3-12 apiece.

Mayo full forward Cathy Greally hit the net in their first attack as the Tyrone defence was caught napping. Credit to the Red Hands they opened their account with a Catherine Moohan point before Hauttman put three points between the sides again.

Points from the outstanding Niamh Mc Elduff, Moohan and Eva Cullen had Tyrone in front. Hauttman tied the game from a free before points from Moohan and Rhianne Mc Loughlin put Tyrone two ahead.

Back came the visitors and a Kate Tener goal helped them lead 2-4 to 0-8 with half time approaching. With the highly impressive Emer Cunningham driving things on a goal from Eva Cullen followed by another Moohan point  put them two ahead but things got even better for the home side as goals from Cullen and Niamh Mc Elduff sent the teams off at the break with Tyrone leading 3-9 to 2-5.

The second half saw Mayo in the ascendancy with Hauttman, Greally, Megan O’Mally and Laoise Greally carrying the game to their hosts. Mayo dominated play and eventually they wore the opposition down. Meanwhile profligacy from Tyrone in front of the posts proved their undoing with a scoring return of only three second half points from Catherine Moohan.

With time all but up it looked like those three points might be enough to secure the win. Unfortunately for the home side Mayo refused to accept defeat and star player Hauttman fired the sliotar to the net to earn her team a deserved 3-12 apiece draw.
