Carrickmore’s Éire Óg produced a sensational late comeback in Granemore to clinch the Ulster Junior B Camogie title, defeating Derrynoose by the narrowest of margins, after a pulsating contest.

It was a game that had everything — intensity, skill, and heart — and fittingly, it was rising minor star Niamh McElduff who stole the headlines with a match-winning goal and an inspired all-round performance that earned her the Player of the Final accolade.

Derrynoose started strongly with Caoimhe McNally finding the net early, while Niamh Murphy kept the scoreboard ticking with accurate frees. Éire Óg were slow to settle but captain Aoibhinn Daly led by example, notching two fine scores to keep her side in touch.

At the interval, the Armagh champions held a two-point cushion — 1-5 to 0-6 — despite Éire Óg’s growing pressure and a near miss from McElduff, whose goal effort went agonisingly wide.

The second half saw Derrynoose extend their lead, but Carrickmore refused to buckle. Sorcha Gormley ignited their revival with a brilliant goal, and when Michaela Daly added a point, momentum began to shift.

Then came the magic moment. With time running out, Aoibhinn Daly delivered a perfect pass into McElduff, who turned her marker and fired a rocket into the net to level the match for the first time in normal time. Daly herself then stepped up to slot the winner in injury time.

Referee Lisa Bannon brought the contest to a close moments later, confirming another landmark win for a Carrickmore side that just keeps rewriting history.

Joint captains Aoibhinn Daly and Ailise Coyle proudly lifted the cup, celebrating a triumph that underlines Éire Óg’s growing stature in Ulster camogie.

Having lifted the Bridie McMenamin Ulster title last season, and added both the Ulster League and Tyrone Intermediate Championship earlier this year, this latest success marks a significant step up in grade — and the signs are bright for a deep run in the All-Ireland series.
