Tyrone dominated the Ulster juvenile 40×20 championships once again as the county collected 13 titles at the provincial juvenile finals in Kingscourt on Saturday.
Tyrone secured the three main girls singles titles at U12, U14 and U16 as Laura Duff, Dearbhail Fox and last year’s All Ireland U14 champion Clodagh Munroe all had impressive wins over their Monaghan opponents.
Tyrone captured four of the six boys singles titles as Shea Munroe (U12), Ruairi Kerr (U13) and Loughmacrory pair Gary McAleer (U14) and Conor Fox (U15) all claimed great victories.
Paddy McCann (U16) and Ciaran McNally (U17) lost their Ulster singles finals narrowly.
Tyrone picked up the U16 boys doubles title courtesy of Breacach duo Jack Darcy and Conor Owens, who was standing in for his brother Jonathan, while Loughmacrory’s Eoin McElholm and Ruairi McCullagh suffered an agonising defeat at the hands of Cavan in an exciting U14 doubles decider.
Meanwhile the Pomeroy and Greencastle resurgence continues as both clubs featured among the Ulster medal winners in the doubles finals. Pomeroy trio Sean Kennedy, Ryan McCallan and Martin Coyle ensured it was a great day for their club, while Caislin Tracey flew the flag for Greencastle with victory alongside Keeva Owens from Breacach in the U12 doubles grade.
Aoife Kerr and Molly Darcy took the U13 girls doubles title for Breacach while Aoibheann Daly and Aoibheann Gallagher teamed up to lift the girls U15 doubles prize.
There were several sets of family doubles on Sunday as Loughmacrory pair Padraig and Conor Fox enjoyed success at U13 doubles and U15 singles, while Shea and Clodagh Munroe both won singles titles at U12 and U16.
There was also an Owens family double and a Darcy double success for the Breacach contingent, while Thomas Duff and Killian Kerr just missed out on completing doubles for their families when losing narrowly at U15 doubles.
Overall it was a very successful day for Tyrone handball in the Ulster juvenile championships with six different Tyrone clubs featuring on the roll of honour.
Meanwhile three further Ulster champion ship titles were added to the list on Sunday as Seamus McCrory, Conor Kerr and Claire Conway enjoyed great wins on Sunday at the provincial adult singles finals.
Ryan Mullan just missed out in the intermediate singles final against Monaghan’s Gavin Coyle while Cahir Munroe went down to Eoghan McGinnity in the minor championship decider.
The All Ireland semi finals will be against the Connacht champions on the weekend of 9th/10th March.
