Dean Maguirc College pair Gary McAleer and Thomas Duff put the seal on a brilliant handball season for their club and school with an outstanding triumph in the All Ireland junior colleges doubles championship in Kilkenny.

The Ulster champions saw off Kilkenny in their semi final match in Kilfane on a scoreline of 15-7, 15-8 and finished the job off in superb style with a 15-9, 15-7 victory over Waterford in the national decider.
The result means that reigning All Ireland U14 champion Gary McAleer has ended his 2019 campaign with a stunning haul of five national gold medals and one silver medal, with a lot of history made along the way as he captained Loughmacrory to all Ireland division one feile glory in both the 40×20 and 60×30 codes.
Thomas has also enjoyed a fabulous year, winning two national gold medals and two silvers.
The Loughmacrory duo were part of a small group of players who excelled in handball and football throughout 2019. Their club colleagues Eoin McElholm and Ruairi McCullagh were recently crowned All Ireland U14 doubles champions with impressive wins over Galway and Wexford and this quartet proved unstoppable together in the 60×30 feile in Wexford, where Gary also captured the All Ireland skills title.
Along with Dearbhail Fox they also delivered an outstanding feile 40×20 division one success in Cork back in June.
It has been an outstanding year for this group of talented dual players and the four lads are now switching their attention back to football as they prepare for U16 grade 2 league and championship finals next week, having already lifted the U14 grade one county league title in the summer.
