The launch of the 2014 Ulster Senior Football, Hurling, Ladies Football and Camogie Championships took place on Wednesday 30th April, at the MAC (Metropolitan Arts Centre) Belfast.
Launching the Championships among an outstanding turnout of players, management and media were the Ulster GAA President Martin McAviney, Ulster Ladies Gaelic Chairperson Joe Lagan, newly elected Ulster Camogie Chairperson Bridghidin Heenan and GAA Ard Stiúrthóir Paraic Duffy.
In her address to the audience Ulster Camogie Chairperson Heenan said:“As the Camogie Association celebrates its 110th Year in 2014 we look forward to a year of games highlighting the skill and passion of our players in the Senior and Intermediate Championships. The quality of our Ulster teams is improving and this will hopefully result in a competitive Ulster Camogie Championship. I would like to thank NWP Recycling for their continued sponsorship of our Championships which is vitally important in promoting and showcasing our games.”
Tyrone camogie was represented by captain Julie Lagan and manager Jacqui Clarke. Tyrone will play Down IIs in the opening match on Sunday May 25th at a home venue with Cavan and Antrim playing on the other side of the draw.
BBC radio Ulster will be broadcasting ‘The Big comedy Celtic Tour’ programme on Saturday 10th May at 12:00 noon and it will be repeated again on Monday evening at around 7:00pm. The programme is a humorous take on all things Northern Irish with award-winning comedians Owen O’Neill, Des Clarke and Lloyd Langford. The comedians visited Tyrone some weeks ago and recorded at a training session with county players and supporters.
Ulster Camogie ran a Goalkeeping Workshop in Derrytresk last week. There were players and coaches from camogie and hurling present at the session. The focus was on drills that players can incorporate in to their training regime. The workshop was well attended and Tyrone Camogie would like to thank Niall Jackman from Ulster Council for his excellent work and also Derrytresk for the use of their facilities.
There will be an Ulster Council meeting on Friday evening at 7:00pm at Ulster GAA Offices Abbey Street Armagh.
There was a win last week for Doiretreasc in the under 14 league. This week there will be a full round of Post Primary fixtures. The Championship also starts for Post Primary as Edendork host last year’s winners Eglish.
The Tyrone county Feile will be held on Sunday 11th May and more details will be circulated to clubs this week.
Congratulations to Tyrone’s hurlers who advanced to the semi-final of the Nicky Rackard cup after they beat Sligo at Dungannon on Saturday.
